Identity & History

EIIR is an independent European non-profit association dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary research on innovation and sustainable development. It was created under the laws of France (Loi du 1er juillet 1901) on the 23rd of June 2003 (Le Journal Officiel de la République Française endorsing its statute on the 2nd of August 2003).

EIIR is composed of a network of research scientists and decision makers spanning the worlds of academia / research, the private sector and different levels of public governance across the European Union and internationally. Its research activities engage three broad strategic areas that play a crucial role in the process of innovation and sustainable development: science and research, industry and organizations of civil society, and governance, public  policy and regulatory frameworks.

EIIR’s portfolio includes research engagements in areas ranging from technological and organizational, to policy, regulatory and governance frameworks in the field innovation and sustainable development. Such engagements are undertaken in collaboration with leading business organizations, regional and national governments across the European Union, the European Commission, and international institutions such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), among others.

EIIR’s origins can be traced back to INSEAD (https://www.insead.edu) and other world-class educational institutions, where its founder Dr. Takis Damaskopoulos, and subsequent members and research affiliates of EIIR’s team have conducted advanced academic, business management, and policy-related research in collaboration with leading international academic and research institutions, global business organizations from different sectors, regional and national governments across the European Union and internationally, and international bodies such as the European Commission, the OECD and the UNDP.
